Goals & Objectives
Supporting Communities Through Land Stewardship
The Ontario Aboriginal Lands Association (OALA) supports First Nation communities across Ontario by strengthening local capacity for land governance, stewardship, and planning. While OALA’s primary members are Lands Managers and land stewardship professionals, the ultimate beneficiaries of our work are the First Nation communities they serve.
Lands Managers play a critical role in supporting community priorities such as environmental stewardship, housing and infrastructure planning, economic development, consultation processes, and the protection of community lands and resources. Through training, networking, technical support, mentorship, and resource development, OALA helps ensure communities have access to the knowledge, tools, and expertise needed to make informed decisions about their lands.
OALA also supports communities at different stages of land management development, including those working to strengthen local land governance systems, establish or expand land stewardship functions, and build capacity for future generations. By investing in the people, knowledge, and systems that support land management, OALA contributes to stronger communities, sustainable stewardship, and increased self-determination for First Nations across Ontario.
