What considerations should we make when looking to expand our reserve and/or fee-simple land base? This presentation will explore considerations and practices that First Nations can utilize when looking to grow their lands for community and economic development. This includes purchasing fee-simple land with the intent of adding it to reserve through the additions-to-reserve (ATR) process and strategic acquisition of Certificate-of-Possession held lands for the purposes of expanding community-held reserve lands. Specifically, the presentation will focus on considerations and due diligence practices that can inform land purchases and acquisitions to meet community needs through a fair and transparent process for the maximum benefit of the First Nation and its members.
